A few Words on Lipgloss

Hello! So I'm going to start off by saying outright, I'm not really a lipgloss kinda girl. I think lipgloss is one of those products that people either can't live without, and wear it every day, or they hardly touch at all. I'm one of the latter. That isn't to say I don't have any lipglosses at all though! I'm really not keen on how sticky lipglosses are, and find them a bit impractical too, what with your hair getting stuck to your lips every 5 seconds and everything getting sticky! Ugh! But still, I think the inner girly-girl breaks loose sometimes and I just think "I want to wear some lipgloss!!" So I have collected quite a small, tailored collection which I find works for me, which I'm going to be sharing today - lipglosses for the girl that doesn't like lipgloss!

So the first thing for me is that obviously I don't wear lipgloss very often at all, so I would never spend a great deal of money on it, lets face it, it's always going to be sticky, and it's never going to last all day (or even more than an hour at that) so I don't understand when people who don't like lipgloss buy into things like the Clarins instant light lip perfecter or whatever it's called.. Why would someone who doesn't like lip gloss spend over £20 on a lipgloss?! That just doesn't make sense to me! So basically, for me, a lipgloss needs to be cheap, that way I won't worry about getting my money's worth out of it when I inevitably hardly touch it!

But alongside not being a lip glosslover, I am also one of those girls that needs to be prepared for EVERYTHING so naturally I need a small selection of lipgloss in case an occasion occurs that I need some! In which case, the second most important lipgloss factor that I look for (after a thrifty price tag) is the colour!  I know lipgloss is not the product of choice if you're looking for pigment, but I like to see a pretty colour in a tube, and I like to see a trace of it on the lips too!

So those are the most important things to me in a lipgloss, and I've put together a little run through of my collection for you to peruse, so let me know what you think!

Soap and Glory Sexy MotherPucker in peach and red
So first of all there's the Soap and Glory Sexy MotherPucker, these are one of the first cosmetics released from Soap and Glory. They're plumping glosses, and the only ones of their kind that I own, I actually quite like the tingling sensation that these give , and they're not hugely pigmented, so which ever shade you go for, you'll only get a hint of colour. But I think as a general rule, every girl needs to own a plumping gloss (whether they really work or not) and these are my choice! Slightly more expensive than the others, I think these were £7 or £8 when I bought them, but still not too much of a stretch!

E.l.f Luscious Liquid Lipstick in Ruby Slipper and Cherry Tart
The next ones I have are these Luscious Liquid Lipsticks from e.l.f. I actually have a couple of shades of these but these are my very favourites, because I actually think it's quite hard to find a gloss with this sort of deep colour that I love! Technically these are a lipstick, lipgloss hybrid, but I quite like them! I've worn them over a berry coloured stain (from the body shop if you were wondering) and it worked quite nicely! I quite like the unique spongey applicator, and these are the cheapest of the lot, coming in at only £1.50 each!!!

E.l.f Studio Glossy Gloss in ballet slippers, tangy tangerine and berry blush
And finally, these are by far my favourite of the bunch, my  e.l.f glossy glosses. These glosses actually make me WANT to wear lipgloss more often, and that's saying something! These are actually surprisingly very pigmented, and the colours of them are absolutely beautiful, I adore them! And at only £3.75 each they're a real steal, you honestly can't go wrong!

So those are my thoughts on lipgloss, and my glosses of choice, let me know what you thought! Are you a lipgloss girl? Have you tried any of these?

  1. I'm the same with lip gloss! I do like how it looks but often I just can't be bothered because of the stickyness. Although I've been loving cream glosses recently, like the ones from YSL - they pretty much give the same effect but without being sticky x

  2. Yes definitely, I'm definitely drawn in by a pretty looking colour in the tube, but don't like the stickiness at all haha, really want to try some of the YSL glossy stains, I think more because I really like stains that because I'm interested in the gloss though haha!

  4. I have a soap and glory one and I do like it but I find it slightly sticky! The gloss sticks from soap and glory are lovely though, I'd definitely recommend them! I don't really wear gloss either. xx

    Almost Delightful

  5. I have a S&G one but I haven't used it yet! I like highly pigmented lipglosses, I haven't tried any elf ones but the apocalips one looks amazing.

    1. Yeah the apocalips ones do look good, I wish they had a few more shades though! They're a bit limited at the moment.. And pigmentation and colour is one of the things that I go for when I'm looking at glosses too!

    1. Thanks very much! I'll have to have a look at the Victoria's secret ones, I've never seen them before! And Mac's do look nice but I probably wouldn't ever spend that much money on a lipgloss because I know I won't get much use out of it haha

    1. Yeah you're right, nude lips do tend to look good with a bit of shine! I always worry it's going to make the lipstick wear off faster though, or go streaky or something haha
